If the Kopa Online Birthing Class is what you’re thinking of taking, check out my review here!
Are you a first-time parent and nervous about the birthing experience?
Trust me, you’re not alone!
I was a first-time mom giving birth to twins. Talk about nerve-wracking!
Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to attend a birthing class during my pregnancy.
It would have been awesome to have access to online birthing classes since I was placed on bed rest at 23 weeks, but they weren’t widely available then.
Thankfully, online birthing classes are growing in popularity, giving new parents options when it comes to gaining knowledge and confidence when it comes to the birthing process.
With so many to choose from, however, how do you know you’re signing up for the right one?
Well, before I let you know what the top birthing class is for new moms and dads, let’s first look at online birthing classes in general and how they can help you prepare for birth:
Should You Take a Birthing Class?
Whether or not you choose to take an online birthing class depends entirely upon your personal needs and wishes.
Technically, you don’t need to take a birthing class.
But you also don’t have to have an epidural or have a loved one in the delivery room with you.
From a biological standpoint, childbirth is a matter of pushing. However, we live in a time where we have access to supports and comforts that can make the whole process more enjoyable and less painful.
If you’re still not sure about whether or not you want to take an online birthing class, here are some benefits you should consider:
- An online birthing class provides you with schedule flexibility.
- It’s a great option if there are no in-person classes around you or you have been put on bed rest.
- Birthing classes allow you to ask questions and get the right answers from experts (instead of from your mom group on Facebook!).
- Childbirth classes can help build your confidence, giving you the tools to make the best decisions for you and your family.
- You don’t have to wade through Google results to find resources. A childbirth class will provide you with reliable information about the process of birth as well as give you local resources or other services or professionals.
Good birthing classes have also been shown to help women avoid pain medications and enjoy the process of natural birth!
When Should You Take an Online Birthing Class?
While you can take an online birthing class at any point in your pregnancy, it’s usually best if you do so at the beginning of your third trimester.
When you take a birthing class at approximately 28-32 weeks, the information you learn will be fresh in your mind when it’s time to have your baby!
Plus, the information and resources you will receive will seem more relevant as you move closer to your due date. This will give you plenty of time to plan for your birth with confidence.
By the third trimester, you are starting to more mentally prepare for the birth of your baby and your partner is likely starting to think about how they can support you on the big day.
However, there are no rules when you should take an online birthing class and you may find yourself wanting to take the class earlier – especially if the class is comprehensive and takes over a month to complete.
What Does an Online Birthing Class Help With?
Childbirth classes typically consist of lectures and discussions led by a trained childbirth instructor, Lamaze educator, or nurse.
Common topics covered in an online birthing class include:
- Signs of labor,
- The stages of labor and delivery.
- Different delivery methods.
- Pain management techniques.
- Relaxation techniques.
- and ways your partner can help support you during labor.
Each childbirth class has a different approach but the common goal is to help prepare you for childbirth and help you make informed decisions regarding the birthing process.
And, as I mentioned above, they are super helpful in building your confidence when it comes to childbirth.
